Give Your Time As A Volunteer

Our volunteers represent one of the hospital’s greatest assets. We are so grateful to our volunteers who together donate thousands of hours per year. Over 1,000 volunteers provide service to many different departments and programs at Huntington Health.

Volunteer Application

Thank you for your interest in volunteering with us! At this time, we are not accepting new volunteer applications.

We truly appreciate your enthusiasm and dedication to supporting our mission and encourage you to check back periodically for updates. Thank you for your patience and understanding.

Volunteer Requirements

High School students must have successfully completed their 9th grade year before applying.

Fully vaccinated against COVID-19 in order to apply. 

  • Completion of a primary series AND a single monovalent booster dose, (ex. 3 total COVID-19 vaccinations) OR
  • A single updated COVID-19 vaccine dose (ex. 1 vaccination from 2023-2024 or later formulation)

Commitment

  • High School students are asked to commit to 40 hours of service per year.
    • High school seniors must apply before January of graduation year.
  • College Students are asked to commit to 50 hours of service per year.
    • College Students planning to volunteer during summer only need to commit to a minimum of 3 consecutive months of weekly service.
  • Adult volunteers who are not currently enrolled in school are asked to commit to 100 hours of service per year.

Attendance Policy

  • To participate in our program, volunteers must commit to a minimum of 8 hours per month. Volunteer shifts are scheduled for the same day and shift time every week. 
  • Volunteers must commit to a minimum of 3 consecutive months of weekly service.

Flu Shot

  • From November 1 to April 30, all volunteers must receive a flu shot or sign a declination form and wear a mask during flu season.

Volunteer Information

  • Submit your application
  • Attend an information session
  • Complete onboarding process. Onboarding process can take up to 2-3 weeks to complete.
    • 2-Step TB Skin Testing (provided by the hospital)
    • Background check for those 18 and over
    • Orientation Training
  • Interview with a volunteer manager for assignment placement and scheduling
  • Purchase uniform 
  • We currently do not provide shadowing or internship opportunities through our volunteer program. 
  • Make sure you have availability for the commitment. 
  • Vacations and sports seasons occur.Thank goodness!  Don’t apply now if you have lengthy commitments. It is better to train when you can commit before taking time off.
  • Our communication is through email. We expect you to read the weekly information.

Jake

In addition to existing assignments, volunteers will come to us with unique ideas to brighten the days of patients, staff and visitors. Jake, a magician from Hollywood’s prestigious Magic Castle, shares his talents and time to bring smiles and disbelief to everyone he encounters! This is Jake’s way of giving back for the excellent care he received at Huntington.
