Patient and Family Advisory Council

Our partnership with patients and families provides an opportunity to continually improve the patient experience.

Patient and Family Advisory Council

At Huntington Health, we partner with our patients and families to deliver compassionate care.

What is the Patient & Family Advisory Council (PFAC)?

  • PFAC is a partnership between patients, their families and members of the healthcare team.
  • The PFAC is made up of 8-12 Patient Family Advisors (PFA) – more details below.

What is the purpose of a PFAC?

Through dialogue, feedback, and community engagement, our PFAC supports a patient experience that is guided by the voice of our patients and families.

What is the role of a Patient Family Advisor (PFA)?

PFA’s serve as a link between the hospital and the community to:

  • Share insight and provide feedback with the goal of ensuring future patients and families have the best possible healthcare experience.
  • Advocate for patients and families, recommend changes to support the patient experience and improve communication between staff, patients, and family members.
  • Help develop and review materials to support the patient and family experience and help plan for hospital initiatives.
  • Ensure representation of the diverse patient population we serve.

PFA Member Requirements and Commitments

We welcome individuals who are:

  • Former patients, family of former patients, and caregivers of former patients (ages 18+) who have had an experience at Huntington Hospital within the past two years.
  • Able to complete the volunteer training program and PFA orientation.
  • Able to commit to a minimum two-year term (maximum three-year term) on the council and attend a minimum of four meetings each year of their term (PFAC will hold six meetings annually).

  • Respect the confidentiality of patient information, as outlined in the Confidentiality, Computer Usage and Accountability Agreement ( (this agreement will be signed by you as part of your volunteer orientation and onboarding.)
  • Offer feedback in a constructive and professional manner.
