Congratulations to August’s DAISY Award Winner, Sable Williams, RN

As a designated Magnet hospital, Huntington Hospital is a recognized leader in nursing excellence. Every day, our nurses go above and beyond for our patients, and we are proud to recognize them for their efforts.

The DAISY Award was established by The DAISY Foundation in memory of J. Patrick Barnes. The Barnes family was awestruck by the clinical skills, caring and compassion of the nurses who cared for Patrick, and created this international award to say thank you to nurses everywhere.

Huntington Hospital’s August DAISY Award winner is Sable Williams, RN. Sable was nominated by a colleague who wrote the following:

“My patient was diagnosed with an illness six months ago and underwent several procedures and treatments. The patient and her husband were angry and upset at her illness and it showed, affecting the staff. This was understandable, as they were grieving. Toward the end of her time, her husband was not ready to let go, but the patient was. She was no longer upset and was at peace. This was a difficult case and not everyone is able to “not take it personal.” There was one nurse who did just that – Sable. She was positive, caring, nurturing, loving and kind, even towards the husband who was having a difficult time. Sable gave the patient the opportunity to have control in their care. This patient did not open up to anyone, but she did with Sable. She trusted Sable. The extra love and genuine care Sable gave to the patient made her last two days alive, this is what the patient wanted. Sable listened to the patient’s concerns and needs. She went above and beyond to arrange the final wishes for her, including making sure her husband was comfortable. It’s very easy to become frustrated with difficult cases. Sable earns my respect for looking past a negative setting by reaching, caring, and genuinely connecting with this patient and her family. The smile the patient had on her face when she felt at peace will be an unforgettable image and Sable was a huge factor behind the patient’s smile before she passed away.”
