The Transfer Center is a part of the Capacity Command Center, which was created to improve access to care for the community and improve our ability to place the right patient in the right bed with the right resources at the right time.

Huntington is well-equipped to provide a wide range of specialized care with expertise and compassion, making transfers to our hospital essential and frequent.

Requesting a Transfer to Huntington Hospital
Our Transfer Center is available 24/7 and is staffed by a dedicated team that coordinates smooth patient transfers between different health care facilities by facilitating communications and managing bed availability. Every case is coordinated with speed and efficiency, based on availability of resources and hierarchy of need.
Who Can Initiate a Referral?
Case Managers, insurances, third-party or hospital representatives, physicians and medical directors. Patients and families should request a referral through their physician or assigned case manager.
Emergent Transfers
We accept medical transfers for major traumas, including stroke, STEMI (heart attack) and all EMTALA (emergency transfer) situations.
Non‑Emergent Transfers
Transfers of inpatients with worsening status requiring escalating care. This includes transplant, neurosurgical and cancer patients.
Physician‑Referred Transfers
Transfers from other facilities for rare or challenging conditions requiring advanced care, such as complex fracture or spine surgery.
