State, county and local health departments are leading COVID-19 vaccination efforts. All currently authorized and recommended COVID-19 vaccines:
- are safe,
- are effective, and
- reduce your risk of severe illness.
COVID-19 vaccines are free and available to anyone who wants one. The CDC recommends COVID-19 vaccines for everyone 6 months and older and boosters for everyone 5 years and older, if eligible. As with other diseases, you are protected best from COVID-19 when you stay up to date with the recommended vaccines.
CDC recommends that people ages 5 years and olderreceive one updated (bivalent) booster if it has been at least 2 months since their last COVID-19 vaccine dose, whether that was:
- Their final primary series dose, or
- An original (monovalent) booster
People who have gotten more than one original (monovalent) booster are also recommended to get an updated (bivalent) booster.
